Susanna Styron is the director and co-writer of the critically acclaimed Columbia Pictures feature film, SHADRACH, starring Harvey Keitel and Andie MacDowell (Venice Film Festival, Tokyo Film Festival, Los Angeles International Film Festival). She directed and co-produced A DAY LIKE ANY OTHER, a dramatic short starring Richard Beymer and Ally Sheedy (Special Jury Award, San Francisco International Film Festival; Special Jury/Gold Award, Houston International Film Festival).
For television, Ms. Styron has written for BORGIA, created by Tom Fontana, and written and directed for A&E’s 100 CENTRE STREET, created by Sidney Lumet. She co- authored (with Bridget Terry) IN FROM THE NIGHT for Hallmark Hall of Fame; an adaptation of Ann Tyler’s BACK WHEN WE WERE GROWN-UPS also for Hallmark; TAKING BACK OUR TOWN for Lifetime, for which she received a Christopher Award and an Environmental Media Award; and CROSSING THE LINE, also for Lifetime.
As a documentary film-maker, Ms. Styron directed and co-produced the award-winning 9/12: FROM CHAOS TO COMMUNITY about the volunteer effort at Ground Zero. She co-produced, wrote, directed and edited IN OUR OWN BACKYARDS, about the nuclear industry on the Navajo Reservation (PBS; Museum of Modern Art). She has worked as an Associate Producer for Close-Up, ABC TV’s documentary division.
Currently, Ms. Styron is directing OUT OF MY HEAD, a feature documentary about the neurological disease, migraine. She is in development with LIE DOWN IN DARKNESS, written and to be directed by Scott Cooper, which she will produce with Jeffrey Sharp. She is also in development with AFTER AUDREY, a feature film which she wrote and will direct.
Ms. Styron is the author of several screenplays, and has published articles in Spin Magazine, The Yale Revue, Real Simple Magazine and The New York Times. She holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.F.A. from the American Film Institute. She teaches screenwriting in NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts graduate film program, and at the Mediterranean Film Institute in Greece.
